Comprehensive Eye Exams
The Eye Clinic performs routine, comprehensive eye exams to
determine the need for corrective lenses as well as checking the
overall health of the eye. Eye diseases that we routinely screen
for and provide treatment for are glaucoma, cataracts, macular
degeneration and diabetic-related eye conditions.
Comprehensive Pediatric Eye Exams
Children should have an eye exam by the age of four , or sooner
if the child experiences symptoms of visual problems or has a
family history of eye disease or misaligned eyes, such as
strabismus or amblyopia. The Eye Clinic performs eye exams on
infants as well as school-age children for the detection of
refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and
astigmatism; as well as detecting many early childhood
conditions such as strabismus and amblyopia.
Cataract Screening and Surgery
As we age, cataracts can affect the clarity of one’s vision.
Over time, the lens of the eye gradually becomes cloudy and
sometimes opaque, thus affecting the vision. Patients with
cataracts may notice they have frequent eyeglass changes, lose
color vividness, and have problems with glare. The doctors at
The Eye Clinic perform cataract surgery using small incision
surgery and ultrasound to remove the cloudy lens and replace it
with a new, clear, specially designed replacement
lens. Most insurance companies and Medicare pay for cataract
surgery.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is the leading cause of preventable blindness it the
United States. It is called the “sneak thief of sight” because
there are no tell tale signs of glaucoma until it is too late
and some vision is lost. The Eye Clinic of Texas screens all of
their patients for glaucoma. If glaucoma is diagnosed, treatment
consisting of drops, laser surgery or specific glaucoma surgery
can be provided by the physicians of The Eye Clinic of Texas.
Anyone with a family history of glaucoma should be tested
annually. Prevention through eye exams is the only true way to
prevent the disease from causing damage.
Oculoplastics
Oculoplastics is the surgery of the eyelids, tear ducts, or the
orbit (eye socket). It can be done for both functional or
aesthetic purposes. Some of the procedures include
blepharoplasty (eyelid and brow lifts), correction of ptosis
(droopy eyelids), and botox (procedure to smooth facial
wrinkles).
Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic Retinopathy is a complication of diabetes that is
caused by changes in the blood vessels in the retina, the nerve
layer in the back of the eye that senses light and helps to send
images to your brain. If these blood vessels are damaged, fluid
or blood may leak and leave deposits and scar tissue. This
defect can blur or distort the images that the retina sends to
the brain.
The doctors at The Eye Clinic carefully monitor each diabetic
patient to detect early signs of retinopathy. Once detected,
depending upon the patients needs, the following steps may be
taken: laser surgery, vitrectomy, or retinal repair.
The doctors at The Eye Clinic are able to provide treatment for
the early stages of diabetic retinopathy with laser surgery to
decrease fluid leakage and slow down vision loss. All
diabetic patients should be examined at least once a year.
