Dr. Bernard Milstein of The Eye Clinic of Texas is named one of Texas Monthly’s Super Doctors^®

League City, Texas - In 1991, Dr. Bernard Milstein, founder of The Eye Clinic of Texas, became the first physician to perform laser vision correction surgery (LASIK) in Texas. In the December 2005 issue of Texas Monthly, Milstein is recognized as one of the magazine’s Super Doctors®.

The Super Doctors® list was compiled by Key Professional Media, which asked more than 50,000 Texas physicians one question: “To whom would you refer a loved one or one of your patients for medical diagnosis and/or treatment?” After tallying the replies, the research team identified those Texas doctors who earned special recognition from their peers or demonstrated other indications of expertise in their specialties. Since all doctors practicing in Texas are required to comply with stringent licensing requirements, the researchers also confirmed that each physician is properly licensed and without a history of disciplinary action. In the end, KPM established a list of Texas Super Doctors® in 20 specialty areas.

Milstein specializes in LASIK, cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange surgery. As an investigator in the original Food and Drug Administration studies, he helped prove the safety of the excimer laser for the treatment of myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia. Milstein was also among the first in the country approved to implant the ReSTOR accommodative lens. He is a fellow of The American Board of Ophthalmology, a past president of the Texas Ophthalmological Association and a member of The American Academy of Ophthalmology and The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. A Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Milstein instructs residents in advanced cataract and refractive techniques.
