The Eye Clinic Of Texas Among First To Receive Most Advanced Laser To Hit Market

Doctors at The Eye Clinic of Texas will be among the first in the country to treat patients using the LADAR6000TM excimer laser when it arrives at the clinic today. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved the laser for use in laser assisted in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) surgeries.

“We strive to provide our patients the latest in technology. As a result, this is our 8th laser to be introduced at our clinic,” said clinic founder Dr. Bernard Milstein, who became the first doctor to perform a laser vision correction procedure in Texas in 1991. “It is the newest laser available and has the broadest range of treatment options.”

With a 50 percent faster ablation rate than previous LADARVision® platforms, the LADAR6000TM significantly decreases surgical time, particularly in higher refractive correction ranges, and results in less exposure of the corneal flap.

“The LADARVision® laser, without question, has the best tracking system available,” Milstein said. “ It is just superior to anything else available. The LADAR6000TM has an improved laser cavity that makes the treatment more precise and faster. Less time for treatment means quicker recovery. The LADARVision system is just a very sophisticated laser with many built-in safeguards.”

Developed on a flexible platform to allow for future upgrades, the LADAR6000TM also includes enhancements designed to improve overall system performance, ease of use and patient flow.

The FDA also recently approved the industry’s broadest wavefront-guided hyperopic indication for the CUSTOMCORNEA® procedure on both the LADAR6000™ laser and the LADARVision® 4000 system. As a result, the doctors at The Eye Clinic of Texas can now treat hyperopia (farsightedness) and hyperopic astigmatism in addition to the current range for myopia (nearsightedness) and myopic astigmatism with CUSTOMCORNEA®, utilizing wavefront technology.

Founded in 1972, The Eye Clinic of Texas offers the latest in laser vision correction surgery, as well as a full-range of other eye needs, including cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, diabetic eye examinations, and routine eye examinations at three locations throughout Galveston County: League City, Galveston and Texas City.
