The Eye Clinic Of Texas Bids Farewell To Dr.
Daniel Gold And Welcomes Dr. Austin Chang To The Clinic
League City, Texas – After working at The Eye
Clinic of Texas (ECOT) for nearly 30 years, Daniel Gold, M.D. announced today
his upcoming retirement from the clinic. Succeeding Dr. Gold is Austin Chang,
M.D., an ophthalmologist from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in
Galveston, will join the clinic’s staff of physicians.
Gold, who plans to retire as of August 31, has been a board certified
ophthalmologist since 1972. He was one of the original 20 physicians chosen
throughout the United States to participate in the clinical trials of
photorefractive keratectomy laser surgery, the predecessor to LASIK, as well as
one of two doctors to actually perform the first laser vision correction surgery
in Texas in 1991. Since this time, he has performed thousands of laser eye
surgeries and contributed greatly to the success of laser vision correction.
Over the course of his career, Gold has held numerous teaching positions,
including a 26-year-appointment at UTMB, as well as authored and edited dozens
of articles for medical journals and textbooks. He is listed in The Best Doctors
in America and Who’s Who in America.
“I have enjoyed a tremendous career at the Eye Clinic of Texas,” said Gold, who
plans to spend his retirement teaching Ophthalmology to young physicians,
continuing his medical editing and writing, traveling and enjoying quality time
with his wife and five grown children. “This clinic gave me opportunities to
help so many people while working with wonderful partners and a great staff. It
has been my privilege and pleasure to have spent these years at the Eye Clinic
of Texas.”
While grateful for Gold’s contributions to the clinic, ECOT founder, Bernard
Milstein, M.D., is proud to welcome Texas native Austin Chang, M.D. to the
practice, effective July 14. Chang recently completed a chief residency position
at UTMB, where he was also a top honors student, earning his medical degree in
May 1999. He is skilled in numerous types of surgical eye procedures to treat
diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma, as well as specializes in eye trauma.
He is a member of the Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association
and American Academy of Ophthalmology. When not working, Chang spends his time
volunteering at a community care clinic for the indigent, as well as leading a
children’s mission in Hong Kong.
“Dr. Chang represents the future of the Eye Clinic of Texas,” Milstein said. “He
is a bright, young doctor with an extraordinary grasp of the field of
ophthalmology. It is our privilege to have him join our team and look forward to
having him contribute to the quality care provided by our clinic.”
