The Eye Clinic Of Texas Offers New, Advanced
LASIK Procedure To Treat Vision Imperfections For Nearsighted Patients
League City, Texas – Doctors at The Eye Clinic
of Texas announced today that the clinic is now offering wavefront-guided
LADARVision® excimer laser system for the treatment of a broad range of vision
imperfections for nearsighted patients. Recently approved by the U.S. Food &
Drug Administration (FDA), this new system allows surgeons to measure and treat
visual disorders that previously could not be detected with prior laser vision
correction systems.
The new system, which consists of the LADARVision® 4000 excimer laser system and
the new LADARWave™ diagnostic device, is the first FDA approved system that can
measure and treat corneal imperfections. These two devices working in tandem
create a new LASIK-based surgical procedure known as CUSTOMCORNEA®, which
results in a better quality of vision more consistently and actually enhances
the already-successful LASIK procedure. Currently, CUSTOMCORNEA® is only
approved to treat nearsightedness and mild astigmatism.
The procedure begins with the transmission of a non-harmful ray of light into
the eye. The light is reflected off the retina, out through the pupil and into
the diagnostic device, where the reflected light wave is received and arranged
into a unique pattern that captures the patient’s full range of visual
imperfections. All of these visual irregularities are then displayed as a
three-dimensional configuration, known as a wavefront map. This information is
then electronically transferred to the LADARVision® 4000 excimer laser and
computer-matched to the eye’s position, enabling the surgeon to customize the
LASIK procedure to each patient’s unique visual requirements.
In CUSTOMCORNEA® clinical trials, nearly 80 percent of patients who underwent
the new laser eye surgery procedure improved visual perception and regained
20/20 vision. But, even more importantly, they reported a quality of vision –
such as crispness and clarity -- superior to that achieved with conventional
LASIK.
"CUSTOMCORNEA® is a tremendous breakthrough in laser eye surgery that enables
surgeons to improve overall vision quality better than in the past,” said
Bernard Milstein, ophthalmologist at The Eye Clinic of Texas. “Prior to the
advent of wavefront measurements, we could not detect some types of corneal
imperfections. With this technology breakthrough however, we can now measure
many disorders, show the patient what’s going on in their eye, link that
information to the laser, and actually correct the visual problem. We’re excited
to be able to offer this advanced LASIK technology to area residents.”
Founded in 1972, The Eye Clinic of Texas offers the latest in laser vision
correction surgery, as well as a full-range of other eye needs at three
locations throughout Galveston County: League City, Galveston and Texas City.
