Over 500 People Honor Local Ophthalmologist, Dr. Bernard Milstein, With 1999 Person Of Vision Award

Galveston, Texas – Local ophthalmologist and founder of laser vision correction surgery in Texas, Bernard A. Milstein, M.D., received the 1999 Person of Vision award from Prevent Blindness Texas/Gulf Coast Chapter.

Over 500 people filled the Frances Anne Moody Ballroom at the Moody Gardens Hotel on Oct. 13 to honor Milstein. The evening was filled with a dinner and silent auction, along with speeches from Milstein and his daughter, Julie. Irwin “Buddy” Herz, a friend of Milstein’s, served as Master of Ceremonies. 60 Patients Prepare For New Surgery – Excimer Laser Corrects Poor Vision

Star Wars surgery, using “cool” laser beams and microscopes, may provide light for poor eyes in Galveston.

The surgery, called photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), will be performed on 60 Galveston area patients during the month of July, using a new excimer laser at St. Mary’s hospital purchased by a grant of $289,000 by the Moody Foundation of Galveston.
