ReSTOR lens can improve vision in a full range of distances, from near to far
AcrySof® ReSTOR® Multifocal Lens Implants (IOL) for Cataracts & Cataract Surgery for Houston & Galveston from The Eye Clinic of Texas
What is ReSTOR?
Houston cataract patients will be please to learn about the AcrySof® ReSTOR® Multifocal Lens Implants (IOL) for cataracts & cataract Surgery. The Eye Clinic of Texas is proud to offer to our patients one of the latest advancements in cataract surgery. Utilizing the AcrySof® ReSTOR® Multifocal Lens Implant (IOL), we can help many of our patients achieve glasses-free vision for both near and distance.
The ReSTOR® lens is an Intraocular Lens (IOL) that uses a combination of three complementary technologies to offer a full-range of high-quality vision in many patients. By distributing the appropriate amounts of light to near and distant focal points, regardless of the lighting situation, the lens improves image quality. As a result, many cataract patients gain the ability to see clearly without the aid of glasses or bi-focals.
Recognizing how this new technology can treat both cataracts (a Medicare-covered procedure) and presbyopia (a non-covered procedure) in one sitting, Medicare allows patients to pay for this lens as an upgrade to conventional cataract surgery.

How is the ReSTOR® IOL better?
Cataract surgery has undergone tremendous technological advances. This year 3 million patients will undergo cataract surgery in the United States. Now, patients can have the ReSTOR® IOL, which is designed to allow patients to see clearly at all distances without bifocals or reading glasses.
In the original clinical study, 80% of patients receiving the ReSTOR® IOL reported never having to wear glasses for any activities. These activities include reading a book, working on the computer, driving a car – both day and night – and playing golf and tennis. In fact, patients were so pleased with their vision, nearly 94% of patients said they would have the ReSTOR® IOL implanted again, if given the choice.
As with any surgical procedure, there are inherent risks. Your doctor will provide you with more detailed information about the potential risks and benefits to help decide whether cataract surgery and the ReSTOR® IOL is right for you.
What to expect after you have ReSTOR surgery….
- Do not evaluate your vision until you have had surgery in both eyes. It is very difficult for your brain to accept the difference in vision between the two eyes until they can work together to adjust to your new vision.
- If you have astigmatism in your eyes, it may be necessary to refine your vision with excimer laser treatment or another refractive modality following or during your surgery.
- Your near vision will be closer than you remember it before surgery. Expect to bring things closer to read comfortably. If you are in the habit of wearing glasses, don’t be tempted to pick them up to help you, just work with your new eyes and adapt to them.
- Your vision in the intermediate range will be functional, but may not be as sharp in the early post-operative days as it will become over the next few months. Have patience! You will need to get closer to your computer until your eyes adjust to your new vision.
- Your distance vision should be good and will also improve with time. It may be necessary to perform a treatment called a Yag capsulotomy after your surgery. This is a normal and painless procedure that will also help to improve your vision.
- You may initially see some glare and halos around lights early after surgery. These will improve over the next few months and are a normal symptom of healing from the eye surgery.
