John J. Alappatt, M.D. is a Houston retinal specialist and surgeon at The Eye Clinic of Texas where he provides care for retina diseases including vitreoretinal surgery for retinal detachments & tears, Lucentis® injections for diabetic retinopathy and age related macular degeneration (AMD) and other specialized retina surgery. Dr. Alappatt earned his medical degree magna cum laude with Alpha Omega Alpha Honors from a 6-year combined undergraduate and medical school program at Northeastern Ohio Universities. He went on to complete a Residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati, followed by subspecialty fellowship training in retinal diseases at the University of Texas and Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Following his subspecialty training, Dr. Alappatt accepted a position as full-time faculty at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School where he conducted research in retinal diseases and mentored young retinal surgeons. Dr. Alappatt has also taught residents and young retina surgeons as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch and Baylor College of Medicine. His research has contributed to our scientific understanding of macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
