All Laser Bladeless LASIK Eye Surgery for Houston & Galveston from The Eye Clinic of Texas

All Laser Bladeless LASIK Eye Surgery at The Eye Clinic of Texas for Houston and Galveston area patients is a most advanced technology for our Laser Eye Surgery patients. The IntraLase ™ method is an all-laser approach to creating your corneal flap-the thin flap of tissue that our LASIK surgeons gently fold back in order to perform your LASIK procedure. LASIK surgery consists of two steps.  During step one, the doctor creates a corneal flap.  During step two, the opthalmologist gently folds the flap back to perform the laser procedure that corrects your vision.  Traditionally, the corneal flap has been created by using the microkeratome.  The IntraLase allows the ophthalmologist to tailor-make your corneal flap based on what’s best for your eye, something that is not possible with the microkeratome.  Certain patients who were not previously eligible for LASIK using the microkeratome may now be eligible using the IntraLase method.

How does the Intralase method work?
Tiny pulses of laser light pass harmlessly through the outer portion of your cornea and for a uniform layer of microscopic bubbles just beneath the surface of your eye.  Just prior to LASIK surgery, the ophthalmologist can lift the corneal flap by gently and easily separating the tissue where these bubbles have formed.

Is it painful?
No, the doctor applies drops to numb the eye.

How long does it take to create a flap using the Intralase method?
The creation of the flap itself takes only about 15-20 seconds per eye.  Including preparation time, the LASIK procedure takes about 10 minutes.

What are the benefits of the IntraLase method?
The choice of a using a microkeratome to create the flap or the Intralase® is usually left up to the patient except in those instances when your surgeon recommends one procedure over the other and this will usually depend on the thickness of your cornea. Whether you elect to have All-Laser LASIK, your ophthalmologist recommends All-Laser LASIK, or you have LASIK with a microkeratome, the result will basically be the same – good vision following your treatment.
